Fofana underwent surgery on his ACL injury on Tuesday, according to a statement from Chelsea. Although no timetable has been set for his return, he is likely to be sidelined for an extended period.
Tuesday's Chelsea statement read, "Defender Wesley Fofana has undergone anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery."

This latest setback, however, may cause him to miss a substantial portion of the 2023/24 season.
Center-back options for Chelsea now include Levi Colwill, Thiago Silva, Trevoh Chalobah, and Benoit Badiashile. Badiashile did not travel with the rest of the team for the preseason tour because he is still recovering from a severe hamstring injury he sustained towards the end of the previous season.
Wednesday evening, Chelsea will play Wrexham in the first match of their tour. The Blues will then take on Brighton, Fulham, and Newcastle United before facing Borussia Dortmund in a one-off match in August.
