Will Onana transfer to Manchester United?

Following the expiration of David de Gea's contract at Old Trafford, the Spanish goalkeeper has become a free agent, although discussions regarding a potential new deal are ongoing between him and the Red Devils.

It is reported that Man United head coach Erik ten Hag has identified Onana as his top goalkeeping target for this summer, considering their previous association at Ajax. Onana, a Cameroonian international, joined Inter from Ajax last July and made a significant impact during the 2022-23 season. He played a pivotal role in Inter's journey to the Champions League final and was instrumental in their victories in the Italian Super Cup and Coppa Italia.

Throughout the recent season, the 27-year-old featured in 41 matches for Inter, keeping an impressive 19 clean sheets. Recent reports suggested that Inter's sporting director, Piero Ausilio, traveled to England at the beginning of last week to hold talks with Man United regarding a potential deal for the goalkeeper.

Marotta has now confirmed the interest from the Red Devils and stated that Inter is waiting for an official offer from the club. "Manchester United have expressed an interest (in Onana) which may or may not lead to an offer in the next few days. Once that happens, both Inter and the player will carefully assess it," Marotta told reporters.

According to journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Man United is willing to pay approximately £38.5m plus bonuses for Onana. However, Inter is seeking a base fee of £43m with additional add-ons. Onana's successful tenure at Ajax saw him win three Eredivisie titles and two KNVB Cups. He continued his winning streak with Inter, securing two trophies during the successful 2022-23 campaign.

where Onana will go ?

While Man United has also been linked with Jordan Pickford from Everton and David Raya from Brentford, Onana has emerged as their primary target in the goalkeeping position. Currently, Tom Heaton and Dean Henderson are the only two senior goalkeepers at Old Trafford, but it is expected that Henderson will move to Nottingham Forest on a permanent basis.

Should Onana arrive, it is unlikely that De Gea will be re-signed, as the Spanish goalkeeper is not anticipated to agree to a backup role at this stage of his career. In other transfer news, Man United is close to finalizing the signing of Mason Mount from Chelsea, with the attacking midfielder scheduled to undergo a medical examination with Ten Hag's side on Monday.
