What happens on the summer solstice?
The summer solstice occurs this year on (June 21) at 2:57 pm UTC. This means that the sun reaches its northernmost point in the sky, and then begins to head south, so the sun rises from the far northeastern corner, and sets at the far northwest corner, and thus the day is the longest day during this year, while the night is the shortest night during this year.
On the day of the summer solstice, the sun is completely perpendicular to the orbit of Cancer, which is located north of the equator at approximately 23.5 degrees latitude.
