Season 2 was originally set to wrap up filming in early May, but production was halted due to the ongoing writer's strike.
This unfortunate interruption may impact the release schedule for Season 2. While there remains a possibility of a later premiere in 2024, it all hinges on the resolution of the strike. According to Deadline, production was shut down in New York, with guild members picketing York Studios during the second week of the strike. Furthermore, reports from Puck's Matthew Belloni shed light on behind-the-scenes conflicts between Severance's showrunners, adding to the potential obstacles in bringing the series back. Co-showrunners Dan Erickson and Mark Friedman have reportedly faced discord, compounded by delays stemming from extensive script rewrites and ballooning episode costs, reaching close to $20 million. Belloni disclosed that Season 2 has been plagued by these "pricey problems" for months, resulting in discarded scripts and an inability for the showrunners to communicate effectively. It was revealed that their relationship soured during the filming of Season 1, with Friedman seemingly desiring to exit for Season 2.
