President Sheikh Mohamed has announced three days of mourning following the passing of Sheikh Saeed bin Zayed, the esteemed Ruler's Representative in Abu Dhabi.
Mourning the Loss of a Respected Leader
The sad news was reported by state news agency Wam on Thursday. The Presidential Court conveyed their heartfelt condolences, acknowledging Sheikh Saeed's role as a beloved brother of Sheikh Mohamed and his dedicated service to the nation. Prior to his passing, the Court had informed the public about his health struggles.
Fond Farewell to a Stalwart Leader
Funeral prayers in honor of Sheikh Saeed will take place on Thursday after noon prayers at the Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed the First Mosque in Al Bateen, Abu Dhabi. Additionally, all mosques across the country will hold funeral prayers after noon prayers. Those wishing to offer their condolences can do so at Al Mushrif Palace in Abu Dhabi from 4.30pm to 6.30pm on Thursday, and on Friday and Saturday from 10am to noon and 4.30pm to 6.30pm. Sheikh Saeed's passing marked the end of an era, as he held several significant positions within the emirate and actively participated in numerous national and international events.
A Nation Grieves for a Sports Enthusiast and Leader
As a prominent figure in the UAE, Sheikh Saeed had a deep passion for sports, particularly football. He served as the chairman of the UAE Football Association from 2002 to 2003 and played a pivotal role in the successful hosting of the 2003 Fifa Youth World Cup. Not only was he the president of Al Wahda Football Club from 1990 to 2014, witnessing its triumphs in league titles, but he also acted as the chairman of the Abu Dhabi Maritime Port Authority. Beyond his sports involvement, he contributed significantly to the Department of Planning and the Department of Seaports, further shaping the emirate's progress and development.
Flags Lowered, and Tributes Flow In
In remembrance of Sheikh Saeed, official mourning commenced, and UAE flags were lowered to half-mast as a mark of respect. Tributes from leaders across the emirates poured in, offering heartfelt condolences and prayers. Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, the Ruler of Sharjah, extended his deepest sympathies to President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the Al Nahyan family, seeking God's mercy and blessings for the departed soul. Crown Prince of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, also paid his respects, imploring Allah for forgiveness and mercy for Sheikh Saeed. Dr Anwar Gargash, diplomatic adviser to the UAE President, joined in offering sincere condolences and praying for divine comfort for Sheikh Mohamed and his family during this difficult time.
